If your children like Easter egg hunts, then they will enjoy this activity. This activity reinforces the skill of counting values of coins to a dollar and also includes an extension of the activity to get children thinking.

hi parents I have a seasonal activity today that's going to reinforce the skill is counting values of coins to a dollar the activity is called what's the value of my egg here's what you're going to need you're going to need an Easter basket you're going to need plastic Easter eggs a collection of coins a pencil and paper optional Easter candy here's how this work you're going to have a Easter egg hunt and what you going to do there before the hunt you're going to put different values of coins $2 inside each of your plastic eggs just like sometimes you normally do anyway but you're going to you're going to do that ahead of time you're going to high your children will go and find the eggs but the difference now is when they come back and bring you the eggs when your tongue comes back to you you're going to sit down with your child and they are going to your trouble open facer eggs and you're going to have child count the value of the coins that are in the egg now sometimes children have difficulty with this if your child has a lot of difficulty with this then what I do I introduce them to some I called Harry money yes I know hair on money with that step so present in this AG we had a quarter a dime and nickel and a penny I'm going to assign I'm hair to each one of these coins now the quarter each hair has a value of $0.05 for the quarter is going to have five hairs that's been 5 10 15 20 25 because of value of a quarter is 25 cents a dime is going to have two hairs 5 because the value of a dime is ten stats Michael will have one hair because the value of a nickel is five cents are penny he doesn't get any hair because he's only a penny is not worth fighting all right now in order to get the value of Art we have two we're going to count all of our hairs by 5 so that's 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 41 sets 41 cents is that is the value of this Easter egg now if your child can already do that and they are so good at it you need an extension activity so instead of putting values of coins to a dollar in the egg then what you can do if you can put money riddles inside of your Easter egg for instance have fun right here this riddle says I hope three coins they total $0.27 what coins do I hold this is a great way to get your child thinking cuz that's certainly what we want them to be doing so what's so great about these activities that I've shown you today your ring your reinforcing counting values of points to a dollar you're getting them thinking and death of all your spending quality time with your child fun activity
