hi a very important skill for students is being able to identify the main idea or central idea of a paragraph or story they activity that I have today will help reinforce that skill it's called a mystery bag and he doesn't love a good mystery here's how it works you're going to gather together bags or even boxes whatever you have around your home that your child cannot see through and you're going to place objects in there which will be your supporting details I'm in the whole logic of the game is for your child to be able to guess the main idea of the bag let me show you how this works let's start with a bag I'm going to start with my birthday bag that I have here in the bag I have a lightsaber which you know what any of this you might think the main idea is Star Wars so we got to keep looking at all of our I'm sick to figure out what exactly the main ideas but these are details flashlight a lighter not looking like Star Wars right now is it a light bulb and a candle flame by looking at all of these objects your child will say that all of these are sources of light which would be the main idea of this bag they all are like forces so let's move on to our next bag and see what's in our next mystery bag but first I have to get rid of these. alright let's see what's in our next mystery bag remember these are all supporting details we have water salt oil vanilla extract powder flower sugar you know we have a Polly by looking at all of these objects do your child will figure out that all of these supporting details would be everything that you need to bake a cake they would make a mixture in the mixture would make a cake hopefully that's what your child would figure out. Let's move on to our next mystery back get rid of this one first all right now Arthur mystery bag this time I did it a little bit differently and you can to instead of using objects this time I wrote my details on pieces of paper let's see what we've got fortnite streams rivers oceans and lakes these are all of my details hopefully from these details your child will figure out what the main idea or central idea of this bag is the bear all bodies of water all right time for our final bags but I got to get rid of this one first alright here's our final mystery bag here are details it is a liquid when it is poured into a glass it takes the shape of the glass or actually any container is poured into it is good for your bones and it comes from a cow play your child will get the main idea of this mystery bag is milk that is the main idea because all of these it helps support the fact that this bag would be milk so I really hope that you can use if activity at home with your child to reinforce the skill of identifying the main idea or central idea of a parrot or a story
